A Socratic Seminar

Today there was a Socratic seminar held in class, a few things that stuck with me were:

  • Seminars are a beneficial way to uncover many different views of a topic/discussion
  • Love is widely represented in art pieces because it's such a familiar feeling
    • "everyone is born with the feeling of love"
  • Love is good, rarely is it ever bad
    • "if love is bad, then it isn't love at all"
  • Love is such a pure feeling, but with love comes vulnerability
  • Everyone has grown up with an idea of love, whether it be associated with hugs, kisses, and even just verbal affection
  • Question: Can you love someone but still hurt them, at the same time?
    • majority said yes, some said cheating is an example
      • many disagreed and said cheating was not loving someone, purely hurting
  • People tend to be bad at loving because they don't do it for a genuine connection with others, they do it because they don't want to feel lonely
