Remix- the arrangement and combination of samples (took something already existing, combined it with something and creating something new)

Hip-hop was the first music form to include remix

• Ex: Sugarhill, Grandmaster Flash, Will Smith, Daft Punk

Remixing is a folk art
Anyone can do it!

*Light bulb is the most famous representation or form of an "idea"

How do we create?
Domain knowledge
Copying (mimicking others)

• Ex: writers, comedians

Transformation (time consuming/labor intensive)
taking existing elements and creating variations

• Ex: steam engines, pianos

Combination
a merging of different parts

• Ex: E=mc^2, printing press
