On Self-Reliance Part IV
consistency, yet another terror
when we learn an idea we make a tiny neurological connection in our brain
if you get a better idea, take it instead
"A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds"
"To be great is to be misunderstood"
- Pythagoras, Socrates, Jesus, Copernicus etc. [none of these people were understood in the beginning]
- make mistakes, it's okay
"One tendency units them all"
- we have a sense of people
- the person who is honorable is the one we respect
What kind of ripple effect do you create?
I'm the kind to try and please you no matter if I just met you or not. I want to leave you thinking, "wow, she really is something," in the best way possible. I want to leave others impressed by what I do.
Does anything that Emerson say inspire you?
The idea that's stuck with me practically throughout our whole time spent on his essay, it'll never fail to amaze me how my brain will always come back to the same few thoughts of his, the things you do, what you believe, what you feel, what you say and what you think all combine in order to make what is you.
You're a mixture of your own creations in a way.
