notes and thoughts on Gatsby chapter 5
Started a new chapter of Gatsby, yet again.
Here are some notes and what I'm thinking so far:
Vocabulary Learned
Elongating: make (something) longer
Rout: a disorderly retreat of defeated troops
Receptacles: an object or space used to contain something
Abortive: failing to produce the intended result
Obstinate: stubbornness of changing opinion
Vestige: trace of something disappearing or no longer existing
Exultation: feeling of triumph; rejoicing
Feudal: according to
-Daisy acts innocently and questions who Tom is even though he's her husband
-Gatsby seems very nervous about the tea meetup
-Daisy seems uncomfortable with finally meeting Gatsby again
-Gatsby seems to regret wanting to meetup for tea
-Nick leaves them alone and when he comes back Daisy is crying and Gatsby seems very happy
-Gatsby gives them a tour of his house (daisy wont stop crying)
(Daisy is grieving the loss and romance that she never got)
-Nick leaves them alone together

- I think Nick's efforts of the being to sort-of "wing man" should be more appreciated by Gatsby, especially at this course now where Gatsby and Daisy finally seem to be comfortable with each other. In a way, the author portrayed this chapter with gloomy and unfortunate weather in order to give them something to be amazed about or something that would distract Nick for awhile as Gatsby and Daisy start opening up to each other. At first it's clearly visible how uncomfortable and nervous Gatsby and Daisy are, but later on in the chapter they seem to finally get closer until it gets to the end where Nick ends up leaving them alone at Gatsby's house. I can't really predict what will happen but I know from here on out nothing will be in favor of Tom Buchanan.
