It's Complicated

The city's destruction, how it managed to turn everything upside down, but at the same time offered Montag some time to reflect. In some way Montag even managed to find remorse for Mildred, despite everything that she did (or didn't do). This shows how much Montag has changed and developed from the character he was in the beginning. Montag's reaction was mixed. At first he worried, he worried about Mildred, Faber, and even Clarisse... then he realized she was already dead. Montag imagined himself with the bomb in his hand, standing high up above everyone else and he told his "loved ones" to flee. He imagine how Mildred felt, or what she was doing, was she finally happy? Had she seen her true self at the end of it all? Montag felt scared and curious in the beginning, but then he realized that he shouldn't. He was being reborn. He realized that they could go any path because they had all the time now. This time, in that place, at that moment... they were the Phoenix. My reaction to Montag's reaction was surprised, but also amazed by how fast his thinking had changed because it truly represented how much he changed since the beginning of the book. I think we would all like to have the way of thinking, realizing that all the negativity and the past doesn't matter anymore, it shouldn't hold us back, we should focus on the future and our endless possibilities.
