Journal [April 24]

Quick, think of a story you remember!

Amusingly, the first thing that popped into my mind was The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. What I remember is there being two different classes, groups of people, that were total opposites and found each other unbearable. The "Socs" and the "Greasers" is what they labeled themselves as, greasers being seen as the uneducated, reckless, and dangerous ones. The story focuses mainly on the greasers, a specific boy gang of greasers, and many challenges that they faced. Sounds a little familiar, right? I guess with everything about Fahrenheit 451 my mind immediately tried to think of something that was similar to it. There's the "perfect" class, but then there's the "dangerous and reckless" group, yet the educated ones are seen as dangerous. The Outsiders is one of my favorite books of all time, I discovered it back in Junior High and I was obsessed with the concept and plot. I liked to imagine myself as a "cool" and "reckless" greaser, but it was only ever in my imagination.
