Online meeting notes

This week's online meeting notes! Brought to you by the April 29th Live.
  • Asking how things have been with each other's lives
    • How we're managing and preparing for our education like AP Testing
  • Wondering about how everyone else has been, those who haven't been on the Zoom meetings (AKA me, but I've been catching up!)
  • Talking about the book idea that Dr. Preston posted, about having us write letters on our experiences so far and trying to make it into a book
    • Talking more about the book idea and going in depth about how it would be formatted and created
Essay-Talk Notes
  • Dr. Preston wanted us to take time to write about anything fun/interesting from the book:
    • What I found interesting from the book was that Guy Montag goes on this whole journey of self-discovery basically, and he finally understands who wants to be. I find it interesting because usually in real life, it doesn't take us only a few hundred pages to find out who we really are, and I'm curious as to how to do it. I think it was fun for Ray Bradbury to be able to express all of his thoughts and feelings into his writing in order to show how much someone can change in life, but it seemed like Montag changing into a different person with a different perspective happened so fast. I mean, I get that that's probably how every book does it, but I really enjoyed the way Ray Bradbury was able to do it. The protagonist, Guy Montag, experiences all these situations, loses almost all of the people he knew, and even goes as far as to murder someone, but hopefully that's not what everyone has to deal with in order to find their true selves.
  • Talked about the other topics that my peers shared, including one about how the dystopian society that they live in is so dark and almost unnatural
    • referenced the part of the book where Mildred overdoses but the paramedics who check up on her end up exposing that they get a lot of people who overdose every night
      • All of this is sort of relating to the theme of self-determination/Montag vs. society because of all the occurrences that society puts him in to deal with (how he deals with them is his true self?)
