Crazy like A Fox

Yossarian says everyone is out to kill him.

Clevinger tells Yossarian he's crazy. He says this because Yossarian tells him that everyone out there, in war, is trying to kill him because they're shooting at him. Clevinger explains that they're not just shooting at him, they're shooting at everyone because it's what war is! Yossarian boldly asks him what's the difference. If they're shooting at everyone, then they technically are shooting at him, so Yossarian isn't necessarily wrong. He had proof that he was being hunted because people he didn't even know were trying to shoot up at him when he was trying to drop bombs -- but if that's the case, then they do have a reason to try and end him, it's because it's war. Yossarian won't stop saying that everyone is out to kill him, but that's kind of the whole point of war, to defeat the other side, and since Yossarian is on the other side of his other side, then they're trying to end him. It all makes sense if he just thinks about it instead of complaining. Everyone is out to kill Yossarian, he's not wrong, but he's not comprehending why. He isn't crazy, at least not any more than they can get, he just can't seem to handle the thought of them killing him.
