Journal [May 4]
How would you explain what's going on in the world right now?
Awhile ago my younger brother, who's seven years old, had kept bugging my parents because he really wanted to go to Walmart in order to buy some toys. My mom kept telling him we couldn't go because it wasn't safe to go outside. He asked her why it wasn't safe. I chimed in and I jokingly told him that no one should go outside because everyone outside is sick, and we didn't want him to get sick. I didn't think he'd believe it, but I should know better than lying to a naive child. Now whenever anyone goes out or he bugs because he wants to go out, we tell him we only go out for emergencies. Then says, "It's because everyone is sick, right?" I should probably let him know that not everyone is sick, but some people are. I would probably tell him that it's not safe to go outside because some people outside can be sick, and we don't want anyone inside our home to get sick either. Or, if that doesn't get through his brain, I can just tell him that all the stores are closed for the whole month, and he'll go back to watching his "toy review" youtube videos (which, I find a bit unsettling, does anyone else?).
